It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet who
has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial, and
it is the soldier----who salutes the flag, who serves the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag-----who
allows the protester to burn the flag.

Your Heroes
This is my hero SGT. Joseph Baker. He has been my boyfriend
for 4 and a half years now and has been deployed three times
since then. He is my best friend, and also my partner in crime.
His last deployment he served with the 2nd MSOB, the Marine
Corps Special Forces unit. This deployment turned out to be
the one that changed his life, when I got the call that no military
significant other ever wants to get. Joe’s Humvee was hit with
an RPG and he was in the hospital in Afghanistan calling me
after his second surgery to remove all the shrapnel and to help
save his leg. Joe walked out of this with permanent nerve
damage, a scar that takes up his whole lower leg, and a purple
heart. But the point is he is alive, and I thank god everyday for
this. I LOVE YOU BABY!!!  –Brit-

after volunteering to go. I pray for his safe return in November
of 2008. He is my rock, everything I could ask for in a future

does, it's the most comforting feeling of just hearing his voice
and knowing he is okay. I miss him more and more each day

This is my hero, SPC Colten Baitch. He is currently serving
on his second tour in Iraq with the 1-66 armor regiment, 1st
brigade combat team, 4th infantry division. He is not my
boyfriend or husband, he is only a friend. The pride that he
takes in this country and in the U.S. Army is what makes him
my hero. He is a wonderful person that can make you laugh
no matter how bad of a day either of you have had. He may
not think of himself as a "hero" but he is to me and many
more. Just as every one that puts on that uniform is. They go
to war with nothing more than a simple thank you having
been said and still do their jobs to the best of their abilities.
So yet again I am saying thank you, to all of the soldiers.

Thank you,
Ashton Hawes
This is my husband my life, my hero and best friend PFC Michael
Metcalfe
from Conroe, Texas.  He is in the Army.  He went to basic
training and Advanced Intermediate Training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky to
be a Calvary Scout.  After Advanced Intermediate Training we were
married at my hometown in Lafayette, Georgia.  I am very proud to say
that we have been married for a year.   We are currently stationed in
Fort Hood, Texas.  He deployed in June 2008 to Afghanistan with the
1st infantry division 6-4 Cavalry regiment and is currently there fighting
for our country.  My husband is very devoted.  After being together for
almost two years and not having the money to get married he made the
decision to join the Army.  He wanted to better his life and make
something of himself while giving me the best life I could possibly ever
want.  I truly believe that he has over-achieved this goal.  He came out
of AIT receiving excellence in Calvary and receiving a rank voucher
and is currently up for another promotion.  He is truly devoted to his
work and believes that what he is doing in Afghanistan is helping the
people.  He has a passion for what he does, and deeply cares for the
people there.  He has already received his combat badge when he and
his platoon were engaged by the enemy while on patrol.  I miss him
terribly, but I understand that what he and all the troops overseas are
doing is for the benefit of the people in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He never
ceases to amaze me balancing life between the military and his family
very well.  He is loving, caring, selfless, motivated, and kind.  He does
his job wholeheartedly and without complaining.  He is not the man I
fell in love with.  The Army has made him the man I want to and will be
in love with for the rest of my life.  I love him dearly and if anyone
deserves to be recognized on this website it is him.  He is everything to
me and so much more.   Thank you
My hero is my husband, SPC Joshua Zoblisien of the 101st
airborne division,  currently deployed to Iraq. Him and I have
had some major problems during this  deployment that have
nearly tore us apart, and we're still managing to push
through and harder than ever. This is our 2nd deployment.
We have 2 beautiful kids  together, one of which was born
during R&R this year. He is a great husband and  magnificent
father. I love him with all of my heart.

This is  my husband, SPC Bradley Strait , of the U.S. Army.
He’s currently stationed in Ft. Riley , KS , but in the middle of a
15 month tour in Iraq . This is Brad’s 3rd tour. We thank him
for all that he does, and could never imagine our lives without
him. He is a great son and a wonderful husband. I miss him
terribly. I can’t wait until he comes home on mid-tour so I can
get those kisses! A webcam and phone calls just aren’t the
same thing. I love you Bradley and am very proud of you. You
are my hero!

Yours forever….Amy

Our hero  is our son, SSgt Nicholas Phelps. We are so proud
of the fact that he did a tour of duty in Iraq. He did what he
thought was the right thing to do for our country and we can't
tell you how very, very proud we are. We will finally get to see
him for Christmas and couldn't be happier! God bless all the
service people no matter where they are serving in the world.

Love you Nick, Mom, Dad and the rest of the family.
My hero is my son, PFC Joshua Basham.  He is currently
serving in Korea with  the 501st Sustainment Brigade/498th
Combat Sustainment Support Battalion as a  light wheeled
mechanic.  He enlisted in the Army in 11/06.  He did his BCT
at Ft.  Knox and his AIT at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.  He is
a good soldier and  believes in what we are doing.  We are
anxiously awaiting his possible return  stateside in August,
2008.
